Packard History
Packard was a United States based brand of luxury automobile built by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, and later by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation of South Bend, Indiana. The first Packard automobiles were produced in 1899 and the brand went off the market in 1958. Packard automobiles are highly sought after by collectors today, and the marque enjoys an active collectors club system.Packards were advertised with the slogan "Ask the Man Who Owns One". (more…)

The Chevelle underwent a redesign for the 1973 model year. The so called "colonnade hardtop" styling featured frameless door glass and stronger "B" pillars. Front suspension was based on the Camaro/Firebird which greatly enhanced handling. Engine choices ranged from the 250 I6 to the venerable 454 V8. Hardened engine valve seats and hydraulic camshafts made these engines reliable for many miles. Crossflow radiators and coolant reservoirs that prevented air from entering the system prevented overheating. Swivel bucket seats and center console for automatic and manual shift cars were offered in every model as was the instrument gauge cluster. Power front disc and rear drum brakes were standard. Power accessories, air conditioning and AM/FM tape stereo were more prevalent ...

The Chevrolet Chevelle pronounced "shevell" was a mid-sized automobile from Chevrolet debuting in 1964. It was produced from 1964 through 1977 and was one of General Motors' most successful cars. Chevelle models ranged from economical family cars to powerful coupes and convertibles. The Malibu was at first the top trim level of the Chevelle line, and it replaced the Chevelle name entirely after 1977. The Chevelle chassis (based on the reengineered GM A platform) provided the platform for the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, a very successful model itself. (more…)

Fixing Paint Chips on your Classic Car

Years ago, assembling a 300SL we'd restored as a show car, we accidentally put a few small chips in the new paint. After the car was completely assembled and finished, we repaired the chips by sanding the damaged area, applying primer, block-sanding it, and spot-painting a section of the panel, trying to keep the repair as small as possible. Matching the color might have required painting the whole panel, which was time-consuming and expensive. (more…)

Maserati Tipo 61
The Maserati Tipo 61 (Birdcage) is one of the most iconic racing cars in history. The car was produced between 1959 and 1961 by Maserati for racing in Le Mans. It became famous for its intricate tubular space frame chassis, containing about 200 aluminium tubes welded together, hence the nickname "Birdcage". This method of construction provided a more rigid and at the same time, lighter chassis than other sports cars of the time. The Camoradi team became famous racing the Tipo 61's but despite being faster round the track than other cars, the Birdcage was unreliable and often retired from races due to problems with the gearbox. The Maserati MC12 is available only in white and blue, to serve as a tribute to the Tipo 61 and the Camoradi racing team. (more…)

The Fiat 500 (the "cinquecento" from the Italian word for "500") is a car produced by the Fiat company of Italy between 1957 and 1975 (the Fiat 500 K alone was produced until 1977) and from 2007 on. It was designed by Dante GiacosaLaunched as the Nuova 500, it was marketed as a cheap and practical town car to combat high levels of congestion in Italian cities. Measuring only 2.97 m (9 ft 9 in) long, and originally powered by a tiny 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term "small car" and is considered one of the first city cars.
