The 1953 Austin-Healey 100 and 3000 were among the first of the cars made by the company of the same name. Donald Healey wanted to increase production volume for his budding British car-building concern in the early Fifties, so he turned to a reasonably priced sports car as the vehicle for this objective. The Austin A90 Atlantic was a British car produced by the Austin Motor Company, launched initially as a sporting four seat convertible. It made its début at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show in London, with production models built between spring 1949 and late 1950. The two-door sports coupé followed a year later; it had been previewed at the 1949 Motor Show and was in production at Longbridge between 1950 and 1952.The Atlantic should not be confused with Austin's next "A90" model, the Austin Westminster of 1954. Austin A40 SportsThe A40 Sports was a small aluminium-bodied convertible version of the Austin A40 Somerset. Produced from 1950 until 1953, the A40 Sports featured a 4-seat 2-door body built by Jensen. It was very similar to the Somerset saloon, though it used a twin-carburettor version of the 1.2 L engine producing 46 as opposed to 42 bhp. Top speed was 78 mph. (more…)

The Austin-Healey Sprite was a small open sports car designed by Donald Healey.Its release was announced by British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1958. It was a small, low cost sports car designed to fill the hole in the market left by the small pre-war Austin Seven sports cars. The car was designed by the Healey Motor Company within the bounds of their partnership with BMC. It first went on sale at a price of £669. (more…)
