The 1965-1974 Fiat 850 Coupe & Spyder were two more special-bodied Fiat sports cars based on mundane sedan components. In this case, the basis was the rear-engine 850, which donated its floorpan, drivetrain, and all-independent suspension to a neat little Fiat-designed four-seat fastback coupe and a Bertone-bodied two-seat roadster. The Fiat 124 Sport Spider is a cabriolet made by Fiat and introduced in 1966 and continued until 1985. Most of the cars were exported to the US.The Sports Spider, introduced in November 1966 at the Turin Auto Show and the Fiat 124 Coupé, introduced in 1967, were related to the 124 sedan in name through the use of much of the mechanical running gear and in the case of the Coupé, a shared floorpan. The Sports Spider utilized a shorter floor pan and its wheelbase was also shorter. The coupé was designed and built in-house by Fiat while the Spider's unit body was designed and produced by Italian carozzeria Pininfarina (it was that company's most successful commercial venture at the time). The Fiat 500 (the "cinquecento" from the Italian word for "500") is a car produced by the Fiat company of Italy between 1957 and 1975 (the Fiat 500 K alone was produced until 1977) and from 2007 on. It was designed by Dante GiacosaLaunched as the Nuova 500, it was marketed as a cheap and practical town car to combat high levels of congestion in Italian cities. Measuring only 2.97 m (9 ft 9 in) long, and originally powered by a tiny 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term "small car" and is considered one of the first city cars. The Abarth 750 Zagato has the familiar Zagato bubble roof top. The Abarth Company was a small Italian tuning company founded in 1950 by Carlo Abarth. Within a short amount of time, the business had established itself as a prominent tuner of vehicles. This vehicle is built atop a Fiat vehicle and powered by a four-cylinder engine. Horsepower was just over 40 which is about double what the standard Fiat engine used. The optional Bialbero GT engine raised horsepower even further. It is matted to a four-speed manual gearbox and has four-wheel hydraulically operated drum brakes. (more…)
